Legal Document — Non-Exclusive Licence
"This agreement exists to protect filmmakers. You own your work. You always will. We ask only for the right to show it — and we'll always take it down if you ask."
This is a short, plain-language summary. The full legal terms follow below — but here is what this agreement actually means in practice.
In this Agreement, the following terms have the meanings set out below:
By submitting a Film and having it accepted onto the 50% Film platform, the Filmmaker grants 50% Film a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to:
We can show your film on our site, talk about it on social media, and potentially screen it in a cinema programme. That's it. We can't sell it, license it to anyone else, or use it for anything beyond promoting your work.
This licence is non-exclusive. The Filmmaker retains the full right to distribute, exhibit, sell, or license the Film to any other platform, festival, distributor, or broadcaster simultaneously.
All intellectual property rights in the Film — including but not limited to copyright, moral rights, and any associated trademarks — remain exclusively with the Filmmaker at all times.
This Agreement does not transfer ownership of any rights to 50% Film. Nothing in this Agreement shall be construed as creating a partnership, employment relationship, or transfer of intellectual property.
50% Film will never claim authorship, co-authorship, or creative credit over the Film. Any editorial or promotional content produced by 50% Film about the Film (such as written notes, interviews, or social posts) is the property of 50% Film and does not affect the Filmmaker's ownership of the Film itself.
Your film is yours. Always was. Always will be. We own nothing. We're a platform, not a rights-holder.
50% Film will host accepted Films on the Platform indefinitely, unless removed at the request of the Filmmaker or at the discretion of 50% Film.
We'll host your film for as long as it makes sense for both parties. Ask us to take it down at any time — we'll do it within two weeks, no questions asked. We can also take it down ourselves if we need to.
50% Film may, at its sole discretion, invite selected Films to be included in a curated Theatrical Programme — a physical anthology screening at cinemas or other exhibition venues.
If we want to screen your film in a cinema, we'll ask you first. You can say no. There's no money involved — it's about giving your film the audience it deserves.
As part of the 50% Film platform, accepted Films and their directors may be featured in editorial content including but not limited to:
All promotional content will be produced with the Filmmaker's knowledge. 50% Film will not misrepresent the Film or the Filmmaker in any promotional material. The Filmmaker may request corrections to factual inaccuracies in editorial content at any time.
Where a Director's Notes interview is conducted, the Filmmaker's consent to publication will be confirmed before the content goes live.
By submitting a Film and entering into this Agreement, the Filmmaker warrants and represents that:
The Filmmaker agrees to indemnify 50% Film against any claims, losses, or damages arising from a breach of the above warranties.
This Agreement and the licence granted under it may be terminated in the following ways:
Either side can end this at any time. Email us, we take the film down within two weeks, and that's that.
Governing Law. This Agreement is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising under this Agreement shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
Entire Agreement. This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between the parties in relation to the licensing of the Film and supersedes any prior discussions, representations, or arrangements.
Amendments. 50% Film may update this Agreement from time to time. Filmmakers with Films already hosted on the Platform will be notified of material changes. Continued presence on the Platform following notification constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
Severability. If any provision of this Agreement is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force and effect.
No Waiver. Failure by either party to enforce any provision of this Agreement shall not constitute a waiver of the right to enforce it at a later date.
